Jim Rome Clone Report by Greg in Sun Valley

Clones, Comments, and Moments from today's Show

New England Patriots No Show

Jim told us that the Patriots did not show up for a visit to a school. Instead, they sent a team intern and a nutritionist.

This story led to an E mail about the Patriots sending that intern and nutritionist would be like Rome having a Tour Stop and sending Stache and Gruce in his place. Jim then reset that Gruce was a former fill in call screener who was very big and had a big, deep voice. "JIM ROME SHOW!", is how Jim imitates Gruce answering the phones.

Jim first said that Gruce was "like 6'9", 440 lbs."  He gave a few more anecdotes about the guy, then said he was "7'6", 540lbs".

This got funny! It was next 11'4", 720lbs, and then finally 14'11", 1020lbs."
I really liked this bit on Gruce!

The Return of NIEMS

John Niems, the writer and performer of the song, "Michael's Dad", made his awaited return to the show. Jim reset the song, the animosity Niems felt after Jim didn't like the song and "blasted" him, and the parody song by Iafrate during his 2004 Smack Off winning call.

Niems came on and talked to Jim first. It was cordial and then Jim gave the "floor" to Niems for his new song! It was apparently a renewed and positive version of a negative song that Niems had written about Rome years ago.

"Jim Rome...It's Niems from home. Ten years later....
Jim Rome...I've lowered my tone....
I may have gotten too mad....by the way you blasted me....about Michael's Dad...Time has healed my wounds......."

He kept it fairly short and ended with, "peace, out."

Reaction

Jim said he was getting a lot of reaction asking why he didn't drop the manual buzzer on Niems. He also said the XR4ti crew wanted the buzzer too. "Tase him, Tase him", Jim said, imitating the crew in a way that hearkened back to yesterday's calls from Phillies fans to Tase the second guy that ran onto the field this week.

Rome explained that he indeed thought about it, but said, "That would have been a jerk move..."  He felt it would have been only for a cheap laugh, and as he grows older, he has become more nostalgic. It was Niems birthday, and Jim said Niems was coming from a good place.

E mail reaction
"Epic fail, brother!" Chris in Tennessee
"...John Tesh on Oxycotton...Glad you two smoked the peace pipe." Scott in Castle Rock
"...It was like having Cracker Jacks with the prize being a cat turd...There's a limit to loyalty."

Jim later joked that Niems would being playing the Meadowlands...."...with a long catwalk like Bono...crowd surfacing...Gruce in a yellow jacket trying to pull him in..."

Text Contest Selections

"Unwar people who have far too personal talks in the elevator..."

Triple U sponsor: "The one year old jar of mayo in the work place fridge."

Actual Triple U: "Hey, I was once asked 'McDonalds or Burger King'....both, plus Wendy's. Signed, Kirstie."

Result: "You're BLOCKED!
