Jim Rome Clone Report by Greg in Sun Valley

(Note: There was no audio access to Jim Rome's streamlink Friday or Saturday. Today's summary is condensed and quotes are paraphrased.)

Summary of the Jim Rome Show for Friday, December 4th, 2009.

It's Friday...Jim opened the show asking for a "Quad Yeah!" sound clip to be played.
Jim mentioned that there were no guests scheduled until the 3rd hour, so the phones would be wide open!

"The Civil War"
Oregon defeated Oregon State to win the Pac 10 title and a trip to the Rose Bowl.

Mark Mangino
The Kansas Football coach resigned amid allegations he verbally abused players. Jim gave some examples. Mangino was also accused of poking a player in the chest.
Of course with Mangino, the subject of his weight came up. An E mail came in (paraphrased) saying that Mangino could now go and relax at home in his pool filled with gravy. This E mailer was "blocked" by Jim.
Later, Jim did say that coach Mangino's weight could contribute to him being unhappy and angry. Rome also questioned how a guy the goes "450" can demand his players be in shape.

Alvin's Mix

The famous montage of sound clips from the show over the years was played at the request of an E mailer.

Commentary

Some of my favorite clips from the "Mix" are:

Randy Johnson's "Don't get in my face and don't talk back to me, alright!"
Don King's "I support Larry Bonds".
Flameon's "Doggy dog".
Bill Parcells' "No Disrespect".

My attempt at depicting Randy Johnson's famous soundbyte.

Callers

The guy with the famous tattoo of Jim Rome on his calf called in. He talked about having "Jungle Karma". He has a salsa making business that is starting to take off. Also, he just got a radio show.

Boadie in Pearland called in. Not to be outdone, Boadie called in to tell Jim he got a radio show on "Stucknut Radio".

Guest

Jason Witten (Dallas Cowboys)
The Cowboys are 8-3 and in first place in the NFC East. Jason played with an injured foot on Thanksgiving. That brought up the question of playing hurt in the NFL. Jason said it's a fine line of knowing if you can play through or not. He did say it depends on the injury. He also said that NFL coaches are smart about injuries and aren't damanding players play when they are clearly injured beyond their ability to play. Answering a question about Tony Romo, Jason said,"...He's the leader of our team."
