Jim Rome Clone Report

Clones, Comments, and Moments from Today's Show

Show Open

Jim began with a little more on LeBron James. He brought up comments by Larry Bird that he, Bird, would rather play against Magic Johnson each year than with him. That made him a better player. Apparently Bird also said that it would have been easier to play with Magic. Jim said, "Right...which is why James to his talents to 'South Beach'...because it's easier."

Jim did bring up that now that they are expected to win in Miami, LeBron will be under pressure to fulfill that expectation. Also, Rome brought up how big it would be for Kobe Bryant to tie Jordan for championships by beating LeBron and Wade. "...would be legendary," he remarked.

Bret Favre also came up in the first segment. Jim quoted Favre's agent, "....Why does he have to be a *&@5$ drama queen?"

Early E mails

Rome said that Kyle Brandt felt the E mails are "terrible today".
The first was, "Dear Jim, We're glad the hick stayed in Boston. Erv's strippers."
Rome, "You're right. Nobody thinks that's funny except Brian in Syracuse."

"Hey Rome. Save some money? What money? Signed, GED holders." Mike in Chicago, non-7 wood user.
Rome, "...One trick pony...don't respond...don't let him hook you..."

"I agree...who wants to work at the same place for 17 years? Signed, your call screener." J.P. in Los Angeles. "Triple U: the Del Sol with The Club on it in the parking lot."

David Buehler

The Dallas Cowboy kicker reportedly just beat cornerback DeAngelo Smith in a race. Jim reminded us that Buehler is the guy that did more reps in weightlifting than a an all pro linebacker. "My new idol is a kicker!," Jim admitted.

Tony Gonzalez

The former KC Chiefs TE and present Atlanta Falcons TE came in studio for a few segmets. In addition to football questions, Jim asked him his take on LeBron's move. Tony, like many, felt that LeBron had the right to go but probably should have handle it better.
They also got into Tony's company All Pro Science. It is a supplement company that Tony doesn't just advertise for...he started the company. You can look it up at http://www.allproscience.com/

More E mails

One came in saying, "...we've made room for Beeler...and we're kinda scared. Signed Borne and McClane" (Posters in Rome's office.)

Eric in Bellingham ended an E mail by warring "KB having me in his wedding".
Jim joked a little about that. He reference his wedding anniversary yesterday saying that it was the best day of his life. He added that it would have been perfect, however, if it was a "clone wedding".

"I can be his best man. 'Randy' in Houston." (Rachel in Houston) Blaise.

The last E mail requested that Jim lift the moratorium on people's appearance being show fodder...because A. We will be amused. B. The show will be better. and C. People being written or talked about will make positive changes in their lives because of it. "Everybody wins, Jim."
To my surprise, Jim said, "Ok...personal appearances ARE show fodder...for ONE segment.

The segment
"E will have already eaten mor cheeseburgers than you get E mails...signed, Kirstie."
"I could knaw on some provolone....E Fittapaldi...Coach K, Randy Johnson...and the rest of the family..."
"Does this product (all pro science) come in chocolate?...Kirstie...War Quiznos

"...war 'Don't BLOCK me'."

"When we go to eat, we just point ot the menu and say, 'We'll take it.' Mangino and Kirstie"

"....war anarchy in the Jungle."

With each reading, Jim would say something to the effect of, "That doesn't make the show better."

Rome then took a call from Monroe in Milwaukee. Monroe said mike McCarthy's play sheet is a Ponderosa menu.....and he's sniffing it. Monroe also called out Vic in NoCal.

Jim called the segment "horrible".

Jim Rome Clone Report

Clones, Comments, and Moments from Today's Show

Jim Rome is Back

Early E mails on the subject

"Has the guy that hit you with 'Who's the new guy' got fired yet?"   Bob

"Muskets and old trucks
Back to civilization
And running water"...J.P. in LA

LeBron Reset

The LeBron saga culminated when Jim was on vacation. Jim expressed that he didn't think LeBron would go to another "Alpha Dog's" team. He talked about Larry Bird and Magic Johnson wanting to beat each other, not join each other. Still, Rome acknowledged James' right to make such a decision as a free agent.   Jim did question the way LeBron went on TV to rip Cleveland's heart out. "There's no way you do that town like that..."

On whether or not that was LeBron's intent, Rome surmised, "...I don't think he 'got it'."

Callers on LeBron

Joe in Akron
He told Jim he had been a big LeBron fan, but now he hates him as much as Art Modell.

Vince in C-Town
Vince felt that LeBron put the Cavaliers back 5 years, didn't try to get players to come to Cleveland, and shouldn't have taken to the airwaves as he did.

End of First Hour

At the end of the first hour, Jim said, "I have done an hour. Aren't I due for a vacation?"

Dave in St Louis E mail

Dave tried another approach to get Rome to play the Larry Brown call. It didn't work. Rome said, "I will bring back the rat family before I play that call...and I'm not doing that....True, I did it in the past...It's not funny anymore...even if there are humans that resemble rats."

Jim and Janet Rome's Wedding Anniversary

Jim told us that 13 years ago, today, was the best day of his life. "Happy Anniversary, Janet!," he said.

Pacquaio vs Mayweather

Plans for the boxing match fell through again. Rome thinks the fight will probably come off next year.

E mail on the subject: "Mayweather/Pacquaio will happen...in 2015, when they're both old and nobody cares. Signed, Boxing."

Inflatable Sky Pillows

I missed how this came up. The pillows are advertised in the Sky Mall magazines, but has anyone seen a person using one on a plane? Jim said the new "bounty" as far as pictures go, is to get a snapshot of someone using one on a plane.

E mail: "I don't need some stupid pillow to relax on a plane. Signed, the guy next to you with his shoes off." Tony in Albuquerque..."War Mike in Chicago making an exception and using a 7 wood on Dave in St. Louis."

Text Contest Selections

"War Rome doing 2 weeks of 6 hour shows to make up for lost time."

"Can you stop referring to LeBron James as 'LeBron James'. Call him '6'. Signed, '45'."

Triple U:

"Spain yes, Tiger no
 LeBron, Cleveland BOHICA
 The Boss is buried"

Result: Jim said, "You're BLOCKED!"

Jim Rome Clone Report

Clones, Comments, and Moments from Today's Show

Tony Rizzo in for Rome

Tony did a "Jungle like" show today. He started by asking for a "Quad Yeah", and got it!

He talked about the British Open, the LeBron saga, some NFL, and even got to Kyle Brandt's upcoming wedding and Kyle Moss' DJ website.

Early E mails

Brian in Syracuse got in with a reference to the strong winds at the British Open, "Weather affects the golfers at the British Open. Signed, Jerome Bettis is from Detroit."   ...as well as...

"Dear Rizzo,
We can't wait to see Cleveland next year. Signed, the NBA Lottery."

When the Cats away...

"War Bums" E mails got through today and the "Carl in Rosemead" call got replayed. After the clip, Tony asked, "...Am I a bad person because I still think that's funny?"

- "War bums using pretzel rods as cigars" Matt in the Fred

- "War bums using licorice as straws"

- "War bums using lobster shells as athletic cups" (Tony did give this one a buzzer.)

Kyle Brandt's Upcoming Wedding

It is set for September.

E mails came in saying "Little Alvie" would be the ring bearer.
Tony asked KB to come on air. J. Stew came on and said Kyle had stepped out of the LA studio. Tony said, "...J. Stew...wooden and laconic as ever."  J. Stew said a lot of beautiful people would be at the wedding and, therefore, he (J. Stew) should "fit in good".

An E mail came in saying, "Of course J. Stew will be at the wedding. Who else is going to tear KB's tuxedo sleeves off?"

KB did come on later. Tony asked him about the entertainment at the wedding. Kyle said he was having a wedding singer. Then the clip of J. Stew singing "Better Man" was played.

E mail on the subject: "...Dear Kyle, forget the wedding. Forward us the menu for the reception. Signed, the Southern Sando."

Moss Mobile Music

With all the music and wedding talk, Kyle Moss' DJ efforts were brought up. He said his website was weak. (www.mossmobilemusic.com)
Tony Rizzo asked a lot of questions about it while giving Kyle a hard time. They joked, "Moss Mobile Music is described as 'killer'."

Jim Rome Clone Report

Clones, Comments, and Moments from Today's Show

There were not many known clones heard from today.

Guest Hosts

Matt Shepard and Drew Sharp from Detroit were today's hosts as Rome remains on vacation.

They covered the death of Yankees owner George Steinbrenner.

Other topics were the "best MLB player in the first half of the season" and "the most self absorbed athlete".

Commentary

Shep and Sharp seemed to take the straight sports show approach. I didn't hear anything humorous from them. Tomorrow, on the other hand, the Sklar Brothers will try to make every sentence they utter funny. That doesn't always work when you try that for three hours straight.

Jim Rome Clone Report

Clones, Comments, and Moments from Today's Show

Jim Rome is still on Vacation

Petros and Money

Today's guest hosts were Petros Papadakis and Matt "Money" Smith. They are out of L.A. but have a syndicated afternoon/evening show on Fox Sports Radio.

They had only a little clone involvement today.

A few E mails:

".....War Turbo and Laser bench pressing 'Fatros' during commercial breaks..."

Also...a "...hungrily, Kirstie" E mail got through.

Wallet Chains

The guys did a bit on wallet chains. They mentioned Christina Kim, an LPGA golfer, wearing one.

E mail on the subject:

"...you telling me David Wells couldn't wear a wallet chain?" Blaise in KC

Callers

Al in New Jersey talked about the World Cup. He complained about the players going down with "injuries". He also said many teams were playing tentatively. "Do me a favor, grow a pair and play aggressively," he said.

Chuck in Ft. Walton Beach got on and simply asked Petros' opinion about the Iowa Hawkeyes upcoming football season.

"Up All Night"

I believe it was Petros that asked about the song that usually bumps the last segment of the show. J. Stew came on and explained the origins of its use on the show from when Rome used to be on late at night. Thankful for the prompt answer to his question, Petros said, "That is the essence of J. Stew."

Show Close

The guys acknowledged that today was not a typical day in the Jungle.

Jim Rome Clone Report

Clones, Comments, and Moments from Today's Show

Show Open

Jim started by saying the show has a "Quad Yeah" but now needs a "Quad Nooooo!" This was in regards to him not being ready when the shows opening bell sounded.

LeBron Watch

Rome started with the NJ Nets today. He talked about their new owner Mikhail Prokhorov having the angle that he can show LeBron how to become a billionaire.  Jim said he likes Prokhorov's swagger. Some quotes: "The Nets have never been more interesting than they are now", "Prokhorov is a baller!"

Later, Rome added that he can see LeBron, Dwayne Wade, and Joe Johnson all staying where they are.

E mail: "Dear Jim, So far, the free agent signings are uneventful. Signed, J. Stew's vacation." Brian in Syracuse.

Tiger Woods

Tiger Woods is probably going to have to pay his soon to be ex-wife Elin between $750-$830 million. Rome said, "...three quarters of a bil...with a 'B'.....What else is out there......What hasn't come  out already?......He's paying her to keep quiet.....something is going on..."

E mails:

"My bank account looks bad........I got taken to the cleaners. Baldrick."
Scott in the Bay

"Golf swing in shambles
Come on Elin give some back
Nickelback still sucks" - Craig in Tampa

J. Stew's Vacation

Call screener Jason Stewart has been on Twitter giving wooden and laconic comments about his vacation. Jim said J. Stew found an outlet in his home, ate "Good and Plenty", and asked if there were any good movies out. "That's why I don't follow you...," Jim told him.

Affiliate Announcement

The Jungle is back on in.....St. Louis! It's been about a year since Jim was on there. This announcement set off another round of St. Louis vs Kansas City on the phones, E mails, and texts!
Jim said he would take the first caller through from St. Louis.
Ryan in St. Louis......(Rome had to step in: "Oh...Ryan, turn your radio down.")
Ryan wasn't there. Jim had Alvin hit the "Price is Right" disappointing horns sound drop.

Tyler in KC sent an E mail along the lines of: "Welcome back to St. Louis. Signed, Unemployment, B.O., debt, self-centeredness, and Tony LaRussa."

Blaise in KC added, "You can't leave St. Louis callers on hold too long. They'll either get shot or arrested."

Caller

John in St. Louis
He immediately started with, "...the cops are chasing me." He then added that KC sucks, and he asked Jim to promise him that he wouldn't talk Rams football.

More St. Louis vs KC E mails

A St. Louis E mailer wrote that he knows that saying something sucks is not a take. However, a take is an opinion. "KC sucking is a fact!..."

I lost count of which side threw this set: "...where....Childhood obesity, adult obesity, cars made in the 60's with a back seat full of kids over 5 with diapers on, with mom smoking with only her window opened so she could put out her arm with her skin hanging over the edge."

Mike in Chicago, non-7 wood user, chimed in. He's apparently from KC, but now is in Chicago. He called St. Louis residents "uncivilized alcoholics" and added, "War me punching St. Louis natives in the face..."

(Jim Rome said that's where he draws the line. He was rolling with the smack but didn't want any talk of violence.)

Unsavory Story

Jim relayed an unsettling story of a U.S. Airways flight where maggots were falling out of the overhead bin. It turns out a guy took some rotten meat on board. One passenger said, "It only takes one maggot to upset your world."

An E mailer commented, "Rome...I'm dry heaving and laughing at the same time."

Caller

Long time E mailer, Dave in St. Louis non-hunter, got in the final jabs in the border skirmish as a caller. He cracked on the local host previously on in this time slot, then made his usual cracks on the Yankees and Michigan football coach Rich Rodriguez. He ended by taking a shot a Mike in Chicago, "...bring your weak smack to my face..."

Text Contest Selections

"Unwar bums using old, discarded "Etch-a-Sketch's" as I-Pads."
(Jim said, "You're BLOCKED!)

"If I had to take calls from St. Louis, I'd take 2 weeks vacation too....War Kirstie eating bums." (Blocked!)

Triple U sponsor: "The guy at work who keeps a traffic cone in his trunk to save his parking spot while at lunch."
