Jim Rome Clone Report by Greg in Sun Valley

Clones, Comments, and Moments from Today's Show

Blown Call

Rome started with the blown call in the potential perfect game for Detroit Tigers pitcher Armando Galarraga. Jim was impressed with Galarraga's calm response. He said, "...Never has a guy been jammed as bad as Galarraga and shown as much class...100% class...the guy was incredible." Rome also expressed that he felt umpire Jim Joyce handled it the best way he could under the circumstances. The umpire admitted he blew the call and apologized to Armando personally.

Rue McClanahan?

The actress that appeared in the Golden Girls TV show passed away at the age of 76. Jim got E mails on the subject as he often does on celebrity passings. "I don't have a Golden Girls take...this is a sports talk show," he said. He added, "Thoughts and prayers for the family...There's your take, idiot!...Do not try to work 'Thank You for Being a Friend' into an E mail. It won't be read, and you will be BLOCKED!" He ended with something to the effect of, "I will not dignify your imbecilic behavior!"

Rome's favorite thing in sports...

"Ron Ron talking about sports 'the way it used to be'..."  First there was the "table leg" story, then his take that if you take a charge, you're a punk. Today was Artest saying that the Celtics have "guys that play the way I played when I was growing up." He also talked about winning in the other guys' neighborhood and having to find a way to get out of there.
Rome added, "No blood, no foul...and somebody is liable to get 'table legged'."

E mail

"Dear Paul Pierce, We already have your wheelchair ready if you need to act ERRRR! get injured. Signed "The Mamba"    Chris in St. Pete

Caller

Dean in Detroit called and said he was at last nights game. He talked about how angry the crowd was. He felt it was close to getting ugly. He concluded by saying that Jim Joyce's contrition made all the difference in the world.

Five Years Ago Today

Today is the 5th anniversary of....the "Mr. Automatic" song debut on the show. Houston band "Three Day Weekend" wrote the now iconic song about call screener Jason Stewart. A classic line from the song was: "Holey moley, he's the next big thing..."  Rome added that "that was before mole smack was beaten into the ground."
Asked by Jim if he was sure it was today, Alvin said, "I remember...It was on my birthday." So, today is Alvin's birthday, and the requisite young age E mails came in.

Armando's Vette

During the show we found out that GM was giving Armando Galarraga a convertable Corvette for his efforts last night. "Now he's Corvette guy," Jim said. He then called for suggestions for the vanity plate Armando should get.
Some were: "IMPURFCT", "UMPFAIL", "PSSTPLS", and "UMPBH8N" by Craig in Tampa.

Text Contest Selections

"Unwar stepping on gum, not knowing, and getting it stuck on your brakes and gas pedal."

"Jimmy Bo Bimmy, the call was good for the game. They're talking about the game, signed, the BCS."

Triple U sponsor: "I'm at the ATM. When I walk away, the guy behind me says, 'Did you leave any money in there for me?'."
