Jim Rome Clone Report by Greg in Sun Valley

Clones, Comments, and Moments from Today's Show

NBA Finals

The show's first topic was the Finals. Rome covered it all, and it is summarized at jimrome.com.
I liked how he pointed out that Lamar Odom needs to wake up and realize the Finals have started. Rome said, "Phil needs to get in his head...or Kobe needs to go upside it!"

Funny sound byte
Phil Jackson said of Doc Rivers running on the court to call time out, "...Coaches should stay on the sidelines...It was like he was shot out of the starters blocks..." Rome added a "Hey-O!"

Early E mails

Mike in Chicago got in with a haiku about Game 2:

"Shuttlesworth sinks threes
Black mamba has foul trouble
Queensbridge didn't show"

"The Bum Smack King" got in with "War bums using hard boiled eggs as golf balls."...then got BLOCKED!

Rules of Ink

Rome laid out his "5 Rules of Ink". (He made full disclosure admitting he, himself has no tattoos.)

1. Do not get loaded before you ink.
2. Do not get inked (while) angry.
3. Do not get face ink.
4. Do not ink anything related to the person you are currently dating.
5. Do not get inked with the logo of your new football team.

This was brought up because LaDanian Tomlinson, now of the New York Jets, got ink of the Jets logo on his calf. Rome said, "I don't like that call....He also violated rule #2."

John Wooden

The iconic man and former UCLA basketball coach passed away on Friday at the age of 99.
Jim spoke of the kind of man he was and of the times he came in contact with him. He also replayed parts of an interview of the coach on the show in 2008.

Many calls were taken in tribute of John Wooden, and stories of encounters with him came out. Bryan in Tucson said he played for John Wooden from 1958 to 1961, before the years of massive success at UCLA. Other callers were: Louis in Wichita, Irae Craig, John in Cincinnati, Mike in New Orleans, Bruce in LA, Bryan in Bellingham, Adam in Raleigh, and Jon in Del Norte.

Gail Goodrich

This former UCLA player and NBA Hall of Famer came on to talk about John Wooden. He too, talk as much about John Wooden as a man as he did about John Wooden the basketball coach.
After the interview, Rome said that Gail was his first athlete idol. He repeated the story about writing to Gail as a 7 year old and getting an autographed picture from him in the mail.
This brought on stories of athlete encounters and autographs.
(Note: Gail Goodrich went to Poly High in......Sun Valley, CA!)

E Mails

"Did I ever tell you about the time I met my idol (a hall of fame basketball coach) in a locker room? Signed, the best phone call ever..." Marshall in Newport.  (This is referring to the "Larry Brown" call from Toby in Houston. Jim told us he would not play the call. He did let us know that Kyle Brandt signaled him that the clip was ready to go.)

"Dear Jim, We are still waiting for our letter from Kyle. Signed, the Southern Sandwich."

"Me send letter to Ronald McDonald....no response, so me go eat Big Mac...me just hungry...Hungrily, Kirstie." This E mailer was, of course, BLOCKED!

Whoomp There it Is

Jim brought up that there is speculation that President Obama was briefly in the video for the "Whoomp There it Is" song from way back. Jim does not believe it is the president.

Mike in Chicago E mailed: "What the hell is Barry doing in the music video for "Whoomp There It Is"?
Regards,
Syndicated Sports Talk Show Hosts in Blink-182 videos"

Sad Note

The brother of sound engineer Alvin Delloro passed away over the weekend at hte age of 38. Thoughts and prayers went out to Alvin and his family from Jim and many callers and E mailers.
