Jim Rome Clone Report by Greg in Sun Valley

Clones, Comments, and Moments from Today's Show

The 'Ol Gunslinger

Early reports were that Brett Favre would NOT be returning to quarterback the Minnesota Vikings this season due to continued problems with his ankle.
A few comments from Jim Rome: "...Does anyone buy this ...yet?...Sorry, I'm not buying it...yet." Jim also talked about how we have been here before with Favre. He also recalled that Brett didn't join the Vikings last year until August 17th.

E mails on the subject: (paraphrased)

"Hey Rome. I think the funny thing about today is how the Vikings fans are going to cry about how Favre screwed them...This is why he was available...(for them to get)..."

"Hey Rome. War Chili (Childress) standing outside Brett's place with a boom box raised above his head blasting 'Pants on the Ground'."

"Hey Jim. I think Favre's act is funny. Signed, pulling over for a hitchhicker then pulling away when he gets close to the car."   Blaise
(Jim said this was Blaise's best E mail ever and that he should never E mail again and go out a legend.)

Callers

Kyle in Green Bay
He started, "How do you feel about #4 taking over your show?..." Kyle also threw in a "Good riddance, Brett".

Aaron in Green Bay
He said that he was one of the last Favre "honks" in town, but thought it is sad that Brett has become a joke.

LeBron James

Rome talked about how LeBron took out a full page ad thanking the city of Akron, Ohio. Jim said, "Akron? Akron?..." He then took up for Cleveland, saying, "...I've never seen a town support a superstar like Cleveland supported LeBron."

LaDanian Tomlinson

Jim covered the story that Philip Rivers and a few others are commenting that things are looser and a little less tense since LaDanian left. Rome gave the opinion that LaDanian was a good team superstar for a long time, but in the end may have been focused on himself.

Caller on Tomlinson:
Brian in San Diego said he can't discount what Tomlinson did in his career. Brian added that he lost what he had over time and was more about himself.

Commentary

Why are callers and much of the audience called "clones"...Brian's call! It was not a bad call or take. However, it was a "clone" of what was just said by Jim!
It used to happen more often. Rome would say, "Thanks for repeating what I just said."

Late Tweet

Jay Glazer, who was credited with the Favre retirement story, Tweeted that the Vikings were "...prepared to do whatever they need, including giving more $$ and more time to get Favre to reconsider."

Rome had fun with this. He asked is Brad Childress was going to rub $100 bills on Brett's ankle. "NOW how does it feel, Brett?" Rome joked as though he were Brad Childress.

More Callers

Before going to the last break, Jim said he would go to the phones...to either Mike in Houston or ...Eddie in Boise!

When the break was over, Jim recounted Eddie's call last year regarding "...the Vikings standing on the banks of the 'What do we do now river'."

Eddie in Boise
Eddie said that he didn't realize when he had that "lame" take last year that it would come full circle. He then asked if Brad Childress was going to call Tony Romo and ask how he felt when he dumped Jessica Simpson at the IHOP.

The manual buzzer DID NOT sound! Eddie made it through, but Jim did say the call was "hard to follow".

Mike in Houston
He had thoughts on Favre also. Mike's opinion was that Brett would not let himself NOT be the main story.

Text Contest Selections

Signed, Ace, Homeslice, and "There He Is" (Emilio Textavez)

Triple U: "Jim, today is a sad day. Now we will be getting less high fives. Signed, Brett's teammates rear ends."   Todd

Result: "That was stupid. You're BLOCKED because that was stupid."
