Jim Rome Clone Report by Greg in Sun Valley

Summary of today's Jim Rome Show

"A tremendous Wednesday to you", Jim started. He then directed the audience to http://www.jimrome.com/ where voting is taking place for segments to be played on the "Clones Choice" best of show on Friday, November 27, 2009. Voting is only taking place through this Friday.

Notre Dame Football
Rome said coming off 2 losses, the question for Notre Dame football is, "Is Charlie Weis going to get a 6th year?" Weis himself said he thinks no decision has been made yet.
Rome's take : "...He's been given a fair shot and he just hasn't gotten it done. Five years is more than enough time...beating UConn and Stanford, if he does, should not save his job...look at the body of work."

College Basketball
Miami of Ohio Coach Charlie Coles "...did something really awesome." A reporter asked him how they let the lead in the game against #4 ranked Kentucky get away from them. Coles was not happy and went on a little rant. Jim said it was a "Perfect mix of sarcasm, condescension, and disdain. As podium meltdowns go, this one is an all-timer."

Clones' Choice Friday
This was a big topic today. Rome said there are 50 segment choices on his website and you can vote for 3 each time you vote. He went over the list on the show today.

E mail on the subject: "Hey Rome. There must be a mistake. I don't see
me in your Clones' Choice list. Signed Larry B."

Mark Mangino
He is the University of Kansas football coach. Jim said, "He has major problems at Kansas." He reportedly got into a player, poked him in the chest, and verbally berated him. The university is looking into it. Jason Whitlock wrote in a column, "...All this guys problem begin with him being overweight." Rome asked, "Is the guy angry and negative and abusive because he's extremely overweight?"

Buffalo Bills
    They fired coach Dick Jauron.
Jim's take : "Hard to argue with that. The guy was 24-33. He was 5-14 in his lasts 19 game. Understand this, he's not the problem. At least not the real problem, and firing him is not going to make that team better...Right now, the Bills are as jacked up as an organization as the Browns and the Raiders. In fact the Browns and the Raiders think those guys are disfunctional."

Jon Bon Jovi
The singer admitted to using steroids years ago.
Rome, "Come to find out that Jon was a roiding rocker..." Jim went on to say sarcastically, "Do we have to look at this guy totally differently?...Do I have to hit his entire catalog with an asterisk now? He was cheating. Wasn't he?"

Caller

Long time texter "Emilio Textavez" mad his first phone call to the show.  Jim said before taking the call that it often does not turn out well when texters or E mailers call the show. "Textavez" said his main reason for calling was to riquest to be put in Jim's "Sapphire Club". (After Rome's favorite Bombay Sapphire Gin). He made comments about drinking and "braiding armpit hair"...AAAHHH!!!  He got run!

Guests

Brandon Jenings (Milwaukee Bucks)
He went from High School to Europe to the NBA. He is averaging 25.5 points a game and recently scored 55 against the Golden State Warriors. He is the youngest player ever to score 50 or more points in an NBA game. Brandon said the plan coming in the season for him was to get his teammates involved and play defense. But he had also been working on his shot. That work started in Europe and continues now with 700 to 800 shot practice days. He spoke of his time in Europe. He liked travelling to different countries, but his playing time in games was limited.

Tito Ortiz (MMA fighter)
He started by saying he is a fan of the show. Tito hasn't fought in a year and a half due to injuries. He has had back problems for years. Also, he dealt with partial tears in his ACL and MCL in his knee. He spoke of his "punishment" style of fighting. He is not looking to win round by round or by submission. He wants to land elbows, takedowns, punches, kicks...whatever it takes to win by knockout or referee stoppage. Tito also said he is thankful for his success. He spoke of his backround, saying, "I was a kid who came from the streets...I had 3 choices in life: dead, prison, or where I am right now."

Eric Weddle (San Diego Chargers)
They started 2-3 but are now 6-3. Eric said going into the bye week after a bad loss to Pittsburgh, they "manned up" and decided what they were doing at that point in the season wasn't good enough. That was the start of their turnaround. He also said the defense is now executing better, and coming together, and trusting each other. Of facing Brandon Marshall when they play Denver, Eric said they would challenge him, get into his face, and try to take away his routes and sets and make him work for everything.
