Jim Rome Clone Report

Today on the Show

Oregon vs Boise State
Rome opened up with,"Quite a night for the Oregon football program. They got punched in the mouth all during the game by Boise State. Then one of their best players, LaGarrette Blount sucker punched Bronco Byron Hout after the game."  Jim said Hout shouldn't have been "bumping his gums" or making contact with Blount or taking his "bonnet" (helmet) off. However,Jim said it was more about the Bronco defense embarrassing Blount and his teammates during the game.

The Most Interesting Man in the World
Video clips online of the punching incident that Jim saw kept coming with commercials...the same commercial, Dos Equis "Most Interesting Man in the World." Rome asked, "If you're the most interesting man in the world, what are you doing drinking a 2nd rate beer? If you were the most interesting man in the world you would have a classic cocktail...Bombay Sapphire." Jim gave the most interesting man title to Merlin, a "mixologist" he met with yesterday.

A parody based on today's show...

Michael Vick
He will officially miss only the first 2 regular season games.

Guests

Chris Petersen (Boise State Football Coach)
Chris talked about the game and the incident afterwards. Later in the interview, Rome asked about Chris' 11 year old son who was diagnosed with cancer at the age of 1. Petersen told how his family referred to his son being a beacon of hope for them.

David Wright (New York Mets)
David spoke of the incident where he was hit in the head by a pitch earlier this season. Rome brought up the oversize protective helmet David had been wearing and all the riibbing he had been getting for it. Wright was good natured about it. Also Wright spoke at length about himself and other MLB players being in a fantasy football league put together by CBS Sports.com.

Vitali Klitschko (Heavyweight Boxing Champion)
He has a title defense coming up against Chris Arreola. Vitali talked about that fight, his long layoff, and Lennox Lewis. He used the phrase "send my opponent to the floor" a few times during the interview. Also, he and his brother plan to keep their promise to their mother and not have a match against each other.

Callers

Trapper called from Talladega. He said a lot about NASCAR, told us what he was going to eat, referenced "tramps like us" (I think), and wished the nation a happy Labor Day.

Vic in NoCal called for the first time since the Smack Off. He brought up Ryan Garko, Usain Bolt, Jay Mohr, and J.Stew. He ended the call with a reference to Jay Mohr, Mike DiTolla, and Brad in Corona being in a room drawing straws. Rome did not like the reference. Jim played a portion of a disclaimer (ala NASCAR)  Vic had sent in which chronicled the many times Rome had reacted to Vic's calls. Then Rome stopped and told Vic he wouldn't play the disclaimer after  the reference Vic made at the end of the call. Rome then gave Vic the "Quad Buzzer"...twice.

E Mails

"Dear Jim, sadly, Trapper's call was better than Vic's. Nice work, Vic. Now you're lower on the totem pole than Trapper."  Blaze in K.C.
"Hey Rome, I find it fascinating that Trapper is a NASCAR fan. I wasn't aware that NASCAR  was on TV in Moscow."  Eric in Bellingham
