Today on the Show
Rome started by telling us that 2 time Heisman Trophy winner, Archie Griffin out of Ohio State was coming on the program today. He then played clips of Lendale White from yesterday downing Ohio State. Rome said he didn't think Archie Griffin would come on with that type of rhetoric.
Also, after hearing yesterday that the Detroit station would no longer carry the 3rd hour of the Jim Rome show, we now are told that the 3rd hour is back in Detroit.
1st topic
Ohio State - the Terrell Pryor wearing Mike Vick eye black story. The story has continued in Ohio. In Fact it has gotten worse for Pryor. Fans and local media have hit him hard. Rome said he doesn't have a problem with Pryor wearing the eye black. He said that Pryor just has to expect consequences and have a better response than the one he originally had.
USC is starting a true freshman against Ohio State
Cleveland Browns coach still has not said publicly who he will start the season with at quarterback. He says he has told the quarterbacks, however. Rome couldn't understand the logic or see an advantage gained by not naming a starter.
Juan Manuel Marquez
He is fighting Floyd Mayweather Jr. During and episode of the HBO reality series 24/7 he drinks his own urine. He explained it by saying that during training the body loses nutrients and that he is replacing what is lost. Jim Rome was repulsed!
Steve Perry and Journey
A controversy of sorts came up in regard to a line in one of their songs. "...born and raised in South Detroit." E mails came in saying there is no "South" Detroit. Rome had fun with it, taking e mails and texts. In the end a quote was read where Perry basically said North, West, and East Detroit didn't sound good in the song.
Guests
Archie Griffin (2 time Heisman winner)
He talked about the USC OSU game being special because big games early in the year like this have not been happening lately. Asked about the Pryor situation, Griffin said Pryor likes how Mike Vick plays football and he should now be able to move on. Finally, Griffin made it clear that he welcomes having someone else becoming a 2 time Heisman winner.
Jim Schwartz (Lions head coach)
He started off saying he had a lot of good teachers in the NFL like Jeff Fisher, Bill Belichick, and Marvin Lewis. Also, he discussed the choice of Matthew Stafford as the starting QB. At the end of the interview, Schwartz became the first NFL head coach to drop a haiku in the Jungle. He said some Detroit fans gave it to him to read. Here it is...
The good news today
Rome is still heard in Detroit
Enough said, I'm out
Jim Rome loved it. He said,"That's how you close the show, coach!
