Jim Rome Clone Report by Greg in Sun Valley

Summary of today's Jim Rome Show

The Jim Rome Show in 2010 started with, "What is up? A tremendous 2010 to you...It's great to be back."

Today's topics:

NFL
   Denver Broncos
Jim began with, "Denver is a big time Jungle team. Love the Broncos...but I'm going to have to start here. Gotta smack your own...That choke job last year was one of the worst choke jobs ever...Bad enough that it cost Mike Shanahan his job. This years meltdown is even worse...I didn't think you could pull off a bigger choke than blowing a 3 game lead with 3 games to play...but, this year's meltdown IS even worse. They started 6-0. They still missed the playoffs...They lost 8 of their last 10. This meltdown is catastrophic..."

"Rest or play" discussion
Rome: "Do you rest guys or do you play guys? Have they earned the rest or are you jerking with a teams rhythm and momentum? What about Wes Welker?  Wes Welker shredding his knee is a kill shot to the Patriots' title hopes." Later Jim addressed the issue again, "...I can see where the Colts and others are paranoid about getting guys hurt in games that might be meaningless." Jim also recognized the fans paying regular season prices to see what amounts to a preseason game when key players are rested.

"Black Monday"
The day when traditionally some NFL coaches are let go. Today's firings: Jim Zorn of the Redskins and the entire coaching staff of the Buffalo Bills.

E Mails

1st E mail of the year:
"Dear Jim. I know what a new year means. It means that you get another two months of vacation." Jake in the Nati.

2nd:
"Van Smack. Van Smack in the box. The pimp is back. Oh my goodness, goodness gracious. Of all the dramatic things. Of all the dramatic things I've ever seen. Van Smack standing in the box announcing he is back. There's a big grin on Marty's face. Well, there you go. We don't have to worry about that spot in the box anymore." Signed Ugly Bob in 96 South Carolina.

Caller

Patrick in Chicago called and began talking about Urban Meyer. He then inserted Brian Kelly, the new Notre Dame coach, into his take.
Jim responded, "I'm listening Patrick. And you're old school...I don't really understand what Brian Kelly and Cincinnati have to do with Urban Meyer taking a leave of absence. I don't really follow that logic."

E mailers then compared Patrick in Chicago's logic to Dan in Edmonton's. He was the guy that called and suggested Tiger Woods staged the November incident to get out of his life and move to Europe.

Mike Leach
Rome: "...They were looking for a reason to get rid of him and they did. He gave it to them. Otherwise, they would've either covered it up or cleaned it up. That's not to say that he didn't-not get what he deserved. Because I think he did."

Interviews

Nick Barnett (Green Bay Packers)
Jim asked if teams really start the playoffs 0-0 or if there would be carry over from Green Bay just smacking the Arizona Cardinals. Nick said he didn't know, but would say that it's always good to go into the playoffs with momentum. Nick admitted that some players don't want to play in "meaningless" games. Nick doesn't feel that way, though. He said you never know when you won't be able to play anymore so he plays every opportunity he gets. Jim emphasized That Nick is a guy that knows injury, having suffered a knee injury last year.

Dhani Jones (Cincinnati Bengals)
Jim asked him about his experience since becoming a Bengal. Dhani said, "It's been a growth...growth experience, coming up from so many different organizations...They really embraced me. It's been an amazing experience." He is new at the middle linebacker position and he likes it. It requires more responsibility and helps him to focus.
Dhani is the guy that wanted to create the "Bow Tie Revolution". Jim first said if Dhani sent a bow tie to him, he would wear it on ESPN. He then backtracked, saying he couldn't "pull it off".

Text Contest

"Hey Rome, unwar people that don't give you a gift receipt, but the actual receipt so they can show you how much scrilla they dropped on you." Emilio Textavez

"Hey Rome. Why don't you tell those Packer fans to give Rodgers some 'bleeping' credit. Regards, Phil Jackson."
