Jim Rome Clone Report by Greg in Sun Valley

Summary of today's Jim Rome Show

NFL

Cardinals beat Packers
Rome: "I could start anywhere, but how about we start with that epic Cardinals/Packers tilt. Tremendous game. Tell me you didn't think that game was over the very second that Charles Woodson clutched up, won the toss, proving once again that tails never fails heading into OT...Because you knew the second the Packers got that ball, the way things had been going for both defenses all day long...the game was just a few plays from ending...

Of Aaron Rodgers, Jim said, "...Rodgers had an unbelievable game. He's a budding star, and given his upside...given the year he had, and the fact that he's only going to get even better, the Packers did make the right choice in keeping him..."

Of Kurt Warner Jim added, "...speaking of amazing, how about Kurt Warner?...
This guy is incredible to me. Kurt Warner...was he not left for dead when he played for the Giants? ...This guy's never looked better, at 38, than he did yesterday. The guy is so clutch..."

Dallas Cowboys

Rome: "...How about them Cowboys? I say, 'Look the hell out for them Cowboys'... 34-14 and it wasn't nearly that close...and if you were looking for Tony Romo to yip up under the bright lights and choke away another big game, you've go the wrong guy. Not that guy, not this team, not this time..."

New England Patriots

Jim said, "Ever think you'd see the day they'd get that badly jacked up in their own house in a game that big?...and the Ravens did. The Ravens are a violent football team..."

New York Jets

Rome: "The New York Jets might not be the best team left, but they think they are! The Jets are 'Likes to fight guy'...They like to fight and they're good at it, and they're looking for another one."

Pete Carroll

The USC  coach has accepted the head coaching job for the Seattle Seahawks. Jim Rome said, "Hey USC fan...Uh Oh! (Carl Lewis clip was played.)...as good as it's been the past decade...It will never be that way ever again...As for Pete Carroll...you're gonna tell me ...this is the opportunity you've been waiting for? The Seahawk job?...I know he'd go. Just not for that gig, and not for those reasons..."

Interviews

Trent Dilfer (Former NFLer, ESPN)
Jim asked him about the Cardinals/Packers game. Trent said, It's hard to find the balance between how much was great Kurt Warner and the Arizona Cardinals passing game, and how much of it was just bad Green Bay Packers pass defense...I tend to lean a little more on this one...bad Packers defense."  He also said part of playing good pass defense in the NFL is contesting everything from the passer, to the routes, to the catch. He said the Packers weren't doing any of that. In response to a question, Trent said, "...the sting of losing is a hundred times worse than the thrill of winning in the National Football League."

John Lynch (Former NFLer, Fox game analyst)
Jim referenced the week 17 game between the Jets and Bengals. John said that game, though "meaningless" did give the Jets confidence for the playoff game against the Bengals. He also credited coach Rex Ryan for fueling the confidence of the Jets.
Of the San Diego Chargers, John said, "...Not as much star power as they once had, but more of a team concept than ever before..."

T.J. Houshmandzadeh (Seattle Seahawks)
He started by answering Jim, saying he did not know coach Jim Mora's job was in jeopardy. Although sorry to see coach Mora go, T.J. said he was excited about having Pete Carroll as coach. He said he felt like he was leaving Cincinnati and coming to the Seahawks all over again. T.J. likes an upbeat coach that challenges his players to compete. He added, "I don't like football. I love football." He later broke down the playoffs in answer to Jim's questions.
