Summary of today's Jim Rome Show
(As of 7:30pm Pacific Time, the streamlink on Rome's site did not have today's show up. This is therefore an abbreviated summary.)
NFL
The New Orleans Saints beat the Minnesota Vikings in the NFC Championship game.
Jim said it was all set up for Brett Favre to make his legend grow even larger. Jim talked about Brett getting hammered the whole game, yet he was in position to set up the Vikings for a game winning field goal...then the pick! UH OH! (Sure enough, the Carl Lewis "UH OH!" clip was played...several times.)
Jim asked, "How do you go virtually the entire year without forcing anything...and then go brain dead at that moment?...I'm not saying the 'Ol Gunslinger is the reason they lost the game. I'm just saying he picked a heck-u-va time to remember he was the 'Ol Gunslinger."
Green Bay Packer fans
Jim got feedback from "Packer Fan". Many that were still bitter with Favre were glad to see him fail. A few were pulling for him.
Indianapolis Colts beat the New York Jets
The AFC Title Game
Rome: "...I'm not surprised the Jets went down. But I am surprised they went down the way they did. With that swagger-licious 'D' unable to get off the field when it absolutely had to...looked like it was their day...But it didn't happen, because they couldn't do the two things that got them there: get off the field defensively and run the ball..."
Nancy Kerrigan
Jim told the story of the death of Nancy Kerrigan's father and the arrest of he brother. Apparently her father died of a heart attack, but there was reportedly a confrontation between the father and son as well. Jim said he would discuss it if the clones wanted to handle it responsibly.
Interviews
Chad Ochocinco (Cincinnati Bengals)
Chad opened telling Jim, "...Once again, I love you...You be dogging me sometimes, but I don't care because I love you..."
Jim asked about the playoff game against the Jets and what was going on with Carson Palmer. Chad said he was not sure, but felt Carson played a good game. Chad gave Jets DB Darrelle Revis credit for getting the better of him in that game.
They talked about "feedthechildren.org" - a charity Chad is working with that is now helping the people in Haiti.
Chad spoke fondly of Chris Henry, he late teammate. At the end of the interview, Chad talk about being single and he proposed Rome hosting a reality show about finding Chad love.
Jason Cole (Yahoo Sports)
Jason came on and talked mostly about Brett Favre. Jason said he was not as surprised as Rome was that Brett Favre tried to force the ball when he threw that late interception. As for whether Favre is going out on top if he retires, Jason said, "...I think he's right. I mean, look, the guy's had a great career...was it a perfect ending like John Elway? No, not quite that...There's thousands of quarterbacks that would make the trade...and say, 'I'd like to have his career'." As for Favre's future, Jason said he wants to wait until a week or two before the season. Jason: "...even if he says tomorrow, 'I'm done.' Do you believe it? No!..."
