Jim Rome Clone Report by Greg in Sun Valley

Summary of today's Jim Rome Show

"Oh yeah! You know I'm going to start today off with...YEAH! (Then the traditional Friday "Quad Yeah!" was played.) A tremendous Friday to you....," so began the show.

Also in the intro..."Zero tolerance Friday...I will be off Monday...J. Stew is quote, 'chasing and efforting hard' for probably the biggest newsmaker of the week....Who do you think that might be?...famous college coach who no longer coaches in Knoxville..."

NFL

Jim began, "You know it's never officially the NFL post season until there's at least one dust up over a player guaranteeing a win. It happens every single year. It just has not happened yet. Because, contrary to what some in Dallas may want to believe, Brett Favre did not guarantee a win Sunday. It's not a guarantee if the guy gets up in front of the media and says, 'I'd be shocked if we weren't here next week talking about this again.' What do you expect the guy to say, 'I'd be shocked if we do beat these guys'?...The guy didn't guarantee anything...and neither did Jared Allen." (He said, "We kick butt," when pressed by the media for a prediction.)

Rome: "I'm looking for the Cowboys to go into the Dome and end the Silver Fox's dream season. Never thought I'd say that."

Of Tony Romo, Jim added, "...The Tony Romo that I've seen for the past 4 weeks is not the guy that I've seen for the past 4 years. I think his head is right. I think he's loose. I think the 2010 Romo is the 2008 Eli Mannng."

Indianapolis Colts
Jim commented, "I would say, right now, nobody's feeling more pressure than the Colts. Not after shutting it down against the Jets a few weeks back...
Whether they want to cop to it or not, not going for it just put a much bigger bull's eye on their back. Now, they're under even more pressure to cash it in than they would have been had they just kept their foot on the gas..."

Tiger Woods
Jim said Tiger may be donating $3 million for a mobile hospital for Haiti. Jim said that would be great. He then said that there is SPECULATION that Tiger has sought treatment for sex addiction.

E Mail

From Janet Rome!
Jim said, "nice to see the wife chipping in with a little E mail...'How about a moral and honesty rehab?'...That's a good point, Janet. Bring it. Janet, I like that..."

Interview

Darnell Dockett (Arizona Cardinals)
The Cardinals played the last game last weekend and the first game this weekend. Darnell said they have to go through adversity like that to "get where we want to get." He said, "I don't know..." then laughed a little when asked if Michael Adams got away with a face mask on the last play against Green Bay. Later he added, "Mike Adams is one of the hardest working guys on our team...hands down...We going to win games with him." When asked, Darnell said the Saints present kind of the same challenges as the Packers did.

Surfer Girl
Jim's horse Surfer Girl will race Saturday at Santa Anita. He told us how she was shut down by the Veteranarian just before a race on Breeder's Cup Friday in 2008 due to a skin infection. She was out 5 months. She then got an exciting come from behind 2nd place finish. Unfortunately she got sick again and nearly died. Needless to say, Jim is very happy to see her ready to race again.

Caller

Vic in NoCal returned! He cracked on football coaches, Mark McGwire, and fat guys, especially Jay Mohr, "...my best advice to you...fruit." He then ended with a Tiger haiku and an unsavory reference regarding Tiger's wife.

Interviews

Lane Kiffin (USC head football coach)
He said the last few days have been hectic. He told Jim that he left a good place but could not pass up USC. Of the SEC, Lane said it is great with a lot of competition and that he has a lot of great memories. Jim asked him if he owed Tennessee more loyalty. Lane said he was greatful for the opportunity to coach at Tennessee and it was hard to leave. He also mentioned that he went to the athletic director when Pete Carroll left USC and told him he would be interested if USC contacted him.
From leaving Tennessee to contacting (or being contacted by) Tennesee recruits, to the possibility of signing such recruits at USC, Lane basically told Jim that he felt he and his staff were acting ethically.
He told Jim that there was no other job more intriguing than USC.

Cris Collinsworth (NFL great, NBC Sports)
He has a rare weekend off. NBC doesn't have a game this weekend. Jim asked him about the Colts not going for the undefeated season. Cris said that greatness is acheived by so few. He added that if he was on a team that was 14-0 and "...you try to pull me out...It would have bothered me." Jim asked if there would be a lingering effect on the Colts. "You don't know...I would've taken my shot," Cris answered in part. Of the Cowboys, Cris said if they beat the Vikings he thinks they will win the Super Bowl.

Text Contest

No Text Contest today. Jim said, "Blow right by the texts and go right to the phones..." and then took a call from Silk in Huntington Beach who played the "San Diego Super Chargers" song at the end of his call.
